>> dana: good evening. thank you for joining us on this special day. hours ago on the steps of u.s. capitol, president obama took the oath of office for the second time as his wife michelle and his lovely daughters looked on. a beautiful brisk day in the nation's capitol and hundreds of thousands were there to watch the historic moment, which happened to fall on the day we remember, martin luther king junior. here is part of his speech. >> what binds this nation together is not the colors of our skin or the tenets of our faith, or the origins of our names. what makes us exceptionalbe, and what makes us american, is our allegiance to our idea articulated in a declaration made more than two centuries ago. we hold these truths to be self-evident. that all men are created equa

equal. that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, and among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. >> dana: before he took the oath, civil rights leader gave the invocation, the first woman to do so and republican senator lamar alexander participated in the ceremony. >> we now stand beneath the shadow of the nation's capitol, whose golden dome reflects the unity and the democracy of one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> today we pray. the american tradition of transferring or reaffirming, immense power in the inauguration of the president of the united states. we do this in a peaceful,

orderly way. there is no mob. no coop. no insurrection. this is a moment when millions stop and watch. >> dana: so we are going to two a quick round here and we have other sound to get to. see what "the five" thinks about it. this is a moment you predicted on election day what happened. what are your thoughts overall? >> bob: as a progressive, a great populist speech. it would remind me of what taft would have said and huey long would have said. it is a -- for those of us on the left, it was a reaffirming speech. it was one that, where he underscored what he has been saying all along. there is a place for government. government does help a lot of people get places. we don't agree on that obviously, but -- >> dana: do you think that has s what he has been saying all along? if you compare the 2008 speech to this one, it's the same? >> bob: what i would say in this without sour grapes.
2:05 pm
in 2008 he tried to break across the gridlock and he didn't get anywhere so now he will go alone. >> eric: a lot of people on the right said he thinks he has a mandate because he was re-elected. his speech sounded like i have a mandate for the next term, the next four years. he talked about gay rights and climb change. weeping entitlement off the table. equal pay and immigration. those are things we'll hear in the next four years. it reads like a liberal agenda, top to bottom, i am going after it and getting it done. too bad, you lost, i won. looks like another victory lap. >> dana: we will get in sound bites later. the parade is still going on and the president and mrs. obama, the girls are in the viewing area. so we will continue to show you that while we get thoughts overall. when you look at the family, give me your thoughts about that. >> kimberly: this is a happy moment for the obama family.

to be there for people who paid in there but he left it wide open and need to change it for people who are younger. my own prediction is something like a saving plan. >> dana: i'm surprised because that is not what i took away on the entitlement thing. i'm skipping around here. going to the collection action sound bite the you have that and then get to martin luther king thoughts in a minute. run that first one, the collective action comment. >> we always understood when times change, so must we. if i dellty to the founding principles requires new response to new challenges. preserving our individual freedom ultimately requires collective action. no single person can train all the math and science teachers we'll need to equip our children for the future, or build the roads and networks and research labs that will bring new jobs and businesses to our shores.
